Ramble...

Every time I do this, the bus is late
No worry
Nick of time
Traffic on the runways
Elevated power naps
Circling the darkness of Gotham
Best view I have ever seen
Always waiting for these tagged bags
November hypothermia
Back on the main artery
Forgotten train station lullabies
One more fare
Five to kill yourself
Ten to have everyone watch you do it
Five every five minutes to enjoy it
Fuck this place
Time for pre-feast diner cheeseburgers
Run into the ex-junkie who wants junk
Hour and a half frigid streets
Ten-minute panhandlers
One-hour trains
Warm chicken in the frozen ghost town
Awaken to obligatory family
Cook
Eat
Sleep
Typical
Running errands on a blackened Friday
Time to return to the train
Beach becomes endless skyscrapers
Plucked right outside the station
Walk past the former riotous tent city
The bar of summer takeaway
1,2,3,4 down
Now out
Broadway
Liberty
Gold
Twenty-five floors up
Gin and tonics
Eighties nostalgia
Emotional reprise
Fifty-two floors up
Infinite lights
Infinite buildings
At the center of a sliver
Held together by two rivers
Endure the cold
To enjoy the beauty
That most of the world will never know
Twenty-seven floors down
Drinking
Dancing
Fucking
Most glorious sunrise ever
And finally…
Sleep
Awaken to the darkness
Heads a few sizes to big
Walking down streets gated with skyscrapers
Frozen pizza and beer
Subway station of demolished dreams
Under the river to the other side
Basement bar
Doomed generation
Drinking
Dancing
Fucking
And again…
Sleep
Awaken to Easy Mac
Take the sibling taxi
Crossed tracks on the two hour train
Rip-off udon and loose ends
Crossed tracks on the two hour train
No udon, no sake, just rolls
Under the river to the other side
Basement bar
Two pitchers
Twenty minutes
Taxicab confessions
One last night in paradise
East village bars
English stars
Vodka tonics
Pogo dancing
Wandering for happy endings
Buying groceries from Arlene
Breaking minor laws all night
Trust me, it’s all right
One last subway
Drinking and sleeping on the benches
Big brother extinguishes my cigarette
Under the river to the other side
Late night food
Break bigger laws
Get caught
Well, almost
Patrolman let me go
Drown in a sea of commercial America
And this was unwanted…
Sleep
Awaken to Venetian blind sunlight
Infomercials
Missed the takeoff
Repaired at the terminal
Shitty gate seats with a chair arm missing
Sleep
Awaken to over anxious travelers
Get a seat on the ticket
Takeoff
Land
Bags
Bus
Home
Sleep
Awaken to what I’d been missing
